1 What we collect

Enquiries. When you use our contact form we collect your name, email address, phone number, and any message you send us.

The Market Note (our weekly email). When you subscribe we collect your email address and a record of your consent — the date and which form you used. Nothing more; no name is required.

Browsing. We keep standard server logs and use cookieless page analytics (see our Cookie Policy). We do not use tracking cookies or build advertising profiles.

Visit statistics. Our own site counts page views and enquiry clicks (calls, emails, messages) without cookies. To tell a first visit from a return visit, your browser keeps a small record, which we use for 90 days: a random number, the first page you landed on, the name of the website that sent you (for example google.com — never the page address or anything you searched for) and, if the link you followed carried one, its short campaign label (for example “gbp” for our Google listing). The random number never leaves your browser; from this record we receive only that first page, the website name, the campaign label and whether you have been here before. We use this only for overall statistics to improve the site. We never use it to identify you, never use it for advertising, and never share it. You can switch it off on our Cookie Policy page, which deletes the record.

2 How we use it

Enquiries: to reply to you, and to quote and supply what you ask for.

The Market Note: to send you the weekly note you asked for. We use double opt-in — we only start sending after you click the confirm link in your first email — and every email carries a one-click unsubscribe. We never sell or share the list, and we do not use it for anything other than the note. Each email also records, against a pseudonymous code rather than your email address, whether it was opened and which of its links were clicked, and with each click the browser’s user-agent string, so that links fetched automatically by mail scanners can be left out of the counts. We use this only to judge which parts of the note readers find useful; no IP address or email address is stored with it.

We rely on your consent for The Market Note (UK GDPR and PECR), which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing. We rely on legitimate interest for answering enquiries, running the business, and keeping the site secure.

We rely on legitimate interest for the visit statistics. UK law allows storage used only to produce statistics that improve a website without asking first, provided it is explained clearly and you can turn it off easily and for free — which you can, on our Cookie Policy page.

4 Data retention

Enquiry details: no longer than 24 months after your last contact with us.

The visit-statistics record in your browser: no longer used after 90 days, and removed the next time you visit after that; deleted straight away if you switch it off or clear this site’s data.

Your The Market Note subscription: for as long as you stay subscribed. When you unsubscribe we mark you unsubscribed and stop sending; we keep only the minimal record needed to honour that opt-out.

5 Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict the processing of, or port your personal data, and to withdraw consent. Email office@ortaggi.co.uk and we will action it. For the newsletter, the one-click unsubscribe link in any email is the fastest route.

6 Where your data is processed

Our website is hosted on Netlify. Contact-form enquiries are handled by Netlify Forms. We keep the The Market Note subscriber list in Netlify Blobs, and deliver The Market Note through our email provider. Page analytics are provided by Cloudflare and are cookieless. Our own visit statistics are stored in Netlify Blobs. These processors may operate servers outside the UK under appropriate safeguards.
